Solving the Spider Web Mystery: Averages in Action- MYP 5 Mathematics- Manisha Batra

Objective of the Learning Engagement:

Students will be able to accurately calculate and interpret the mean, median, mode, and range of a given data set, and apply these concepts collaboratively to solve problems with missing values, demonstrating critical thinking and effective communication skills in a flipped classroom environment.

Details of the Learning Engagement:

Averages in Action:" The Spider Web Challenge"

Our grade 10 MYP students recently delved into the world of averages with the “Average Spider Web” activity, revisiting mean, median, mode, and range. In this hands-on session, students worked in groups to fill in missing values, applying their critical thinking and mathematical skills collaboratively.
The learning didn't stop there! In a true flipped classroom approach, students took the lead by explaining their findings and strategies to their peers. This method encouraged deeper understanding, communication, and confidence as they taught and learned from one another, reinforcing a sense of community and shared knowledge.

Impact of the engagement on students and reflection as a teacher:

The "Averages in Action: The Spider Web Challenge" had a profound impact on our grade 10 MYP students. The activity sparked intense engagement, with students actively brainstorming and discussing various approaches to solve the problems. Their enthusiasm was palpable as they collaborated to tackle each question, sharing insights and strategies to uncover the missing values.

By working together and thinking critically, students were not only able to solve all the questions but also deepened their understanding of mean, median, mode, and range. The experience empowered them to take ownership of their learning and fostered a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their mathematical abilities.

The magic of AI Tutor -MYP 4 Physics- Sheeba Abraham

Objective of the Learning Engagement To reinforce key Physics concepts and improve conceptual clarity by using the Toddle AI Tutor for targeted revision, personalized questioning, and instant feedback, enabling students to identify misconceptions and strengthen their understanding in preparation for assessments.   Learning Engagement: The AI tutor feature on Toddle was introduced to me by Dr. Meetu Agarwal. As the time for revision approached, I decided to utilize this tool to kickstart the revision process. Upon logging into the Create AI Tutor feature, several options were available. I chose the Mastery Builder, where I input the syllabus for the upcoming Physics assessment. The AI then generated a set of instructions along with an AI rating scale, allowing students to be placed at different levels: Beginning, Emerging, Developing, and Mastery. Once the students were assigned their respective levels, the AI guided them with progressively more challenging questions. Upon submittin...

Beyond the Bill: A Math Lesson in International Dining MYP 2 - Vani Upadhyay

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Culinary Math Expedition: A Real World Adventure in Mathematics where students explored the intricacies of having a meal in a foreign country. Details of the Learning Engagement: In the ever-evolving landscape of education, finding creative ways to blend theoretical knowledge with practical application is key to fostering deeper understanding and engagement among students. Embark on a 'Culinary Math Expedition' a dynamic learning experience that takes students on a mathematical journey through the world of international dining, fostering a deeper understanding of how discounts and taxes affects the final amount of bill and currency conversion. The journey began with forming groups, or "dining tables," tasked with choosing a foreign country and finding a café or restaurant whose menu is available online. Action: The Math Behind the Meal Armed with a detailed handout, each group listed their selected menu items and prices. They dre...

Beyond Black and White: Teaching Moral Complexity Through All My Sons- MYP 4 English LAL- Vivek Mukherjee

Objective of the Learning Engagement:  To study the motivations behind decision making Details of the Learning Engagement: Today in my Grade 9 English class, we explored the idea of decision-making and what drives people to make the choices they do. Our focus was Joe Keller’s fateful decision to ship faulty airplane parts in Arthur Miller’s timeless play All My Sons. Students reflected on what lay behind Keller’s choice: was it mainly socio-economic pressure, or was it a result of his deeply flawed character? This sparked a lively debate in class, with many different perspectives coming to the surface. To wrap up, the students created posters that tried to justify Keller’s decision-making process from different angles.   Impact of the engagement on students and reflection as a teacher: It was inspiring to see such young learners engaging passionately with themes like war profiteering, morality, and survival under extraordinary circumstances. That’s the real magic of literature...
