The Truth About Transversals: An Interactive Geometry Lesson- MYP 2 Math- Pooja Sharma

Objective of the Learning Engagement:   Investigating Angles formed by a Transversal and Parallel Lines Details of the Learning Engagement:  The class was divided into four groups, with four stations set up around the room. Two stations featured parallel lines cut by a transversal, while the other two presented non-parallel lines. At each station, students used protractors to measure angles and analyzed the relationships they observed. The objective of this activity was to explore the relationships between angles formed when a transversal cuts through parallel and non-parallel lines. The hands-on nature of the activity encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and student-led inquiry. Impact of the engagement on students and reflection as a teacher:  Students were highly engaged and curious as they investigated the differences between angle relationships in parallel and non-parallel setups. This active exploration helped reinforce theoretical knowledge and built confid...

Crime Scene Investigation -MYP 2- Meghna Kaushik

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Enhance problem solving and collaborative skills through a robbery investigation task involving Proportions and Percentage Details of the Learning Engagement: Students investigated a staged robbery case , with each station containing hidden clues in the form of proportion and percentage-based questions. They took on roles such as venom vets, cash trackers, space wizards, and chrono sleuths, strategizing in teams to analyze clues, eliminate suspects, and eventually solve the case. This dynamic setup also promoted differentiation in terms of process, environment and content. Impact of the engagement on students and reflection as a teacher: The activity fostered teamwork and problem solving skills with a deeper understanding of Proportions and Percentages. The differentiated roles allowed students to engage with the task as per their preferences. As a teacher, I observed that children were contributing to the task and were engaged as they took owners...

Beyond the Bill: A Math Lesson in International Dining MYP 2 - Vani Upadhyay

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Culinary Math Expedition: A Real World Adventure in Mathematics where students explored the intricacies of having a meal in a foreign country. Details of the Learning Engagement: In the ever-evolving landscape of education, finding creative ways to blend theoretical knowledge with practical application is key to fostering deeper understanding and engagement among students. Embark on a 'Culinary Math Expedition' a dynamic learning experience that takes students on a mathematical journey through the world of international dining, fostering a deeper understanding of how discounts and taxes affects the final amount of bill and currency conversion. The journey began with forming groups, or "dining tables," tasked with choosing a foreign country and finding a café or restaurant whose menu is available online. Action: The Math Behind the Meal Armed with a detailed handout, each group listed their selected menu items and prices. They dre...

MYP 2 Science: Creating Connections with Atoms and Compounds- Eshita Chatterjee

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Differentiated Learning Style :This hands-on approach encourages students to think critically and engage more deeply with the learning. Creating models involves active engagement. Details of the Learning Engagement: "From Atoms to Compounds: MYP 2 Scientists Model the Building Blocks of Matter!" Students of MYP 2 Science make simple models showcasing the difference between ATOM & MOLECULE & the difference between ELEMENT & COMPOUND & evaluate the advantages & disadvantages of their created models. This hands-on approach encourages students to think critically and engage more deeply with the material. Creating models involves active engagement, which helps in better memory retention. Not all students learn best through traditional methods like reading or listening, therefore model-making supports kinesthetic learners who benefit from a tactile and hands-on approach. It also aids visual learners by providing a visual rep...

Inquiry-Based Learning: A Magical Approach for MYP 2 Science- -Eshita Chatterjee

Objective of the Learning Engagement: To foster inquiry-based learning with fun and engagement, to encourage curiosity Beginning the new class with magical experiments that pique curiosity, students are likely to be motivated from the outset. This initial excitement can set a positive tone for the entire science course, encouraging active participation and a thirst for knowledge. Encouraging students to observe, question, and record their observations fosters inquiry-based learning. They are prompted to think critically about the scientific principles behind the seemingly magical experiments, thereby developing their analytical and problem-solving skills. Fun and enjoyable experiences create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring and experimenting. Integrating fun and engaging activities like magical experiments at the beginning of the session can have a profound impact on MYP 2 students by fostering curiosity, inquiry skills, and a deeper appreciatio...

MYP 1-2 IDU Tuning in for the theme Diversity, Equity, Justice, and Inclusion.- Ms Soma Guha

The students of grades 6 and 7 engaged in a Tuning In session for their Form Day centred around fostering an attitude of inclusion within our community in the first week of December 2023. The theme for  the form day this year is Diversity, Equity, Justice, and Inclusion. To kick off the interactive session, the students watched a thought-provoking Ted Talk by eleven-year-old Cole Blakeway .  He shared his heartwarming experiences and deep connection with his 44-year-old autistic uncle, emphasizing the importance of embracing differences.   In an effort to comprehend the diversity within our school, students from both grades actively participated by sharing their thoughts and perspectives. By looking at data collected from grade 6 and 7 students about their culture, learning style, food choices etc,  the students gained insight into the rich tapestry of cultures, learning styles, food preferences, and hobbies present within the community. The exercise highlighted that...

MYP 2 Global Context Gallery Walk- Kalpana Daniel

The six MYP global contexts provide a framework for guiding questions that promote a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to learning.   I'm going to walk you through the steps we took to examine the global contexts for our MYP 2 curriculum and how it in fluenced the students' understanding:     Introduction to the Concept of Context: I started out by having a conversation with the students about what "context" means. Example of a party was used to demonstrate the concept, pointing out that while there are many different reasons for parties (birthday, anniversary, achievement), each one has a context that gives it meaning.     Using Context to Improve Learning:   I compared the party example to education inside the IB framework pushing students to consider why context matters while learning about a subject. This helped them to recognize that context gives any learning meaning and depth.     MYP Global contexts and their explorations were dis...
