Objective of the Learning Engagement:
To empower students to apply the principles of physics in the product design process, fostering innovative thinking skills by integrating scientific understanding with creative design techniques to develop a product.
Details of the Learning Engagement:
In the physics class, students explored key concepts such as center of mass and moment, and conducted an investigation into the principle of moments. Building on this foundational knowledge, they applied these physics concepts in a hands-on project by integrating them with product design skills. The task involved creating a mobile structure, where students had to consider the balance and distribution of weight to ensure the structure's stability. This collaborative project allowed them to design and construct a functional, aesthetically pleasing mobile, while deepening their understanding of how physics principles can be applied in real-world design solutions.
Impact of the engagement on students and reflection as a teacher:
By combining physics concepts with product design skills like using Shapr 3d tool, sketching, cutting hand drill etc , students not only deepened their understanding of abstract concepts like the center of mass and the principle of moments, but also saw their practical applications. The hands-on nature of the activity fostered critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving as students experimented with different designs and materials to create a balanced mobile structure. It enhanced their collaborative skills, as they had to communicate effectively to design and build their models. Students demonstrated increased confidence in applying theoretical knowledge in a tangible project, promoting interdisciplinary learning and encouraging innovation.

Dear Ms. Sheeba,
ReplyDeleteYour learning engagement masterfully combined physics principles with product design, offering students a unique and interdisciplinary experience. By applying concepts like center of mass and the principle of moments to a hands-on project, students were able to deepen their understanding while fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. The use of tools like Sharp 3D, sketching, and hand drills further enriched the experience, making the abstract concepts of physics come alive. This project not only enhanced students' grasp of scientific principles but also promoted collaboration, critical thinking, and innovation as they designed and constructed balanced mobile structures. It’s inspiring to see students gain confidence in applying theoretical knowledge in such practical, creative ways.
