Transforming the Classroom into a Shopping Mall: A Learning Engagement- MYP 1 Mathematics- Moksha Sharma

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Calculate discounts and sale prices to make informed purchasing decisions. Details of the Learning Engagement: The Shopping Spree activity was designed to enhance student's learning of discount and sale price with a real life world scenario of a shopping mall. The classroom is designed as a shopping mall where there are different shops of Clothing, Electronics and Bags. Every shop is offering the articles at different discount rates. Students in groups are required to purchase items from every shop and calculate the final price to be paid after applying discount on it. A cashier is also assigned in the activity where the dummy money is being paid to purchase the items. The cashier was supposed to do the addition and subtraction of the prices of different articles in order to make an accurate bill. To give a real time effect to the activity for developing students' interest following steps have been taken- a) Labels of shopping mall, clothin

Beyond the Bill: A Math Lesson in International Dining MYP 2 - Vani Upadhyay

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Culinary Math Expedition: A Real World Adventure in Mathematics where students explored the intricacies of having a meal in a foreign country. Details of the Learning Engagement: In the ever-evolving landscape of education, finding creative ways to blend theoretical knowledge with practical application is key to fostering deeper understanding and engagement among students. Embark on a 'Culinary Math Expedition' a dynamic learning experience that takes students on a mathematical journey through the world of international dining, fostering a deeper understanding of how discounts and taxes affects the final amount of bill and currency conversion. The journey began with forming groups, or "dining tables," tasked with choosing a foreign country and finding a café or restaurant whose menu is available online. Action: The Math Behind the Meal Armed with a detailed handout, each group listed their selected menu items and prices. They dre

The Evolution of Numbers: A Human Story- MYP 3 Mathematics- Vani Upadhyay

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Unfurling the SOI of Unit: "Logic helps in simplification and representation to understand the interconnectedness." Details of the Learning Engagement: In our latest unit in MYP 3 Mathematics, we unveiled the Statement of Inquiry, guiding our  students to explore the pivotal turning points in human history that have influenced the way we perceive and apply mathematical principles. Inquiry Question: With just the ten symbols, we can write any rational number imaginable. But why these particular symbols? Why ten of them? And why do we arrange them the way we do? Dive into the fascinating world of numerical systems! The students were treated to a captivating video that delved into the History of Numbers, revealing the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations that have shaped our understanding of mathematics.  Students were then divided into small groups, each tasked with researching a specific numerical system, such as Roman, Egyp

Surd-tastic Learning: A Treasure Hunt Experience- MYP 4 Math- Manisha Batra

Objective of Learning Engagement:  Enhance understanding and application of surds through an interactive, collaborative experience Details of the Learning Engagement:  Our Grade 9 students recently participated in an exhilarating Surd Treasure Hunt designed to enhance their understanding and application of surds through an interactive and collaborative approach. Divided into small groups, students embarked on a journey where each clue card presented a surd problem of varying complexity. They worked together to solve these problems, employing critical thinking and teamwork to uncover the location of the next clue. This engaging activity not only deepened their mathematical proficiency with surds but also fostered essential skills such as logical reasoning, effective communication, and collaborative problem-solving. The treasure hunt concluded with the groups finding the final clue, leading them to a well-deserved reward. The event was a resounding success, making learning both fun and i

Dominoes and Math: A Fun Way to Learn Absolute Value- MYP 4 Math- Pooja Sharma

Objective of the Learning Engagement Solving equations that involves modulus Details of the Learning Engagement: The "Absolute Value Equations Dominoes" activity was designed to provide students with an engaging way to practice solving absolute value equations. In this activity, students received 16 puzzle pieces, each containing either an absolute value equation or its solution. The task was to arrange the pieces into a 4x4 grid where the edges of adjacent pieces match correctly with equations and their solutions. Impact of the engagement on students and reflection as a teacher: The hands-on nature of the activity reinforced their understanding through repeated practice, while the immediate feedback from the puzzle pieces allowed them to self-correct and learn from mistakes quickly. When done in groups, the activity promoted collaboration and communication, fostering a positive classroom environment. - Pooja Sharma

MYP 2 Science: Creating Connections with Atoms and Compounds- Eshita Chatterjee

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Differentiated Learning Style :This hands-on approach encourages students to think critically and engage more deeply with the learning. Creating models involves active engagement. Details of the Learning Engagement: "From Atoms to Compounds: MYP 2 Scientists Model the Building Blocks of Matter!" Students of MYP 2 Science make simple models showcasing the difference between ATOM & MOLECULE & the difference between ELEMENT & COMPOUND & evaluate the advantages & disadvantages of their created models. This hands-on approach encourages students to think critically and engage more deeply with the material. Creating models involves active engagement, which helps in better memory retention. Not all students learn best through traditional methods like reading or listening, therefore model-making supports kinesthetic learners who benefit from a tactile and hands-on approach. It also aids visual learners by providing a visual rep

Connecting the Dots: Using a Tea Bag Model to Teach Diffusion and the Impact of Temperature- MYP 4 Chemistry- Bhavesh Bhadaraka

Objective of the Learning Engagement: Using a tea bag experiment as a model, students will be able to define the diffusion process, explain the elements influencing its rate, and explore the effects of external variables on diffusion. Through a practical, visible experiment, this goal seeks to enhance students' comprehension of diffusion while encouraging critical thinking and the application of scientific ideas. Details of the Learning Engagement: Students were asked to gather the necessary resources and make tea, with this model activity student were able to apply their critical thinking skills and generate as well answer the inquiry questions. Which helped them to deepen their understanding for the topic "Diffusion". Gather Materials: 1) One tea bag 2) Two glass 3) Warm water in one glass 4) Cold water in the other glass Procedure: 1) Initial Setup: Place the tea bag in the glass with warm water. Observe the tea particles as they start to diffuse into the warm water. 2

Unlocking the Secrets of Triangle Congruency Through Collaborative Learning in MYP 5 Mathematics- V. Nagarjuna

Objective of the Learning Engagement Types of Congruencies of triangles Details of the Learning Engagement: Is Little information about triangles enough to justify their congruency with each other?  In our recent mathematics class, we embarked on an engaging and interactive activity to deepen our understanding of triangle congruence. The objective was not only to grasp the concepts but also to enhance our skills in logical reasoning, proof presentation, and collaborative learning. Here's how it unfolded: Group Division and Task Assignment Students were divided into small groups, each assigned one of the fundamental triangle congruence criteria: Side-Side-Side (SSS) Side-Angle-Side (SAS) Angle-Side-Angle (ASA) Angle-Angle-Side (AAS) Right Angle-Hypotenuse-Side (RHS) Each group was tasked with thoroughly understanding their assigned congruence criterion. This included exploring the logic behind the criterion, preparing a detailed proof, and planning a presentation to explain it to th
