MYP 1 Math Composite numbers as a product of prime factors- Meghna Kaushik

L earning experience for MYP Year 1 that we did in class today to identify and visualize composite numbers as a product of prime factors. Students made a number trail using building blocks through which they were able to identify the prime factors of numbers up to 20.   The composite numbers will have the same colors as their prime factors. Students were able to visually see that prime numbers are only divisible by themselves (each being a lone cube) and that composite numbers are simply composed of primes (multiple cubes). Each child in the class was engaged and participative.  Extended question: Why is 1 neither prime nor composite.

MYP 5 Narrative Writing Session- Vivek Mukherjee

I had a narrative writing session with my MYP 5 students. I gave them the introduction of the story The Hitchhiker and asked the students in groups to write down 5 points to complete the story. Each group was given a genre like drama, comedy, suspense, etc which they had to carry on the story. Then the groups came together to write their points on the board and present their version of the story. It was very interesting to see students use concepts like personification, chance and coincidence, fantasy in their points. So yeah, a good starting off activity for the MYP 5. Also relevant to the Task 2 of their MYP eAssessment.

Orienting MYP 1 students for Visual Arts- Tinni Arora

The first lesson with Grade 6 (all sections) was more of an orientation lesson with an ice-breaker to create connection and focus their attention. Sharing few points below – After attendance and exchanging names, I started with a general discussion on what all art media and forms the students have covered in PYP, this helped all of them to share, discuss with each other and help me figure out their learning for vertical articulation.  From here we moved to who all likes art and are taking any outside art lessons.  Finally, from here we discussed about Masterclasses and student led lessons. This created a very interesting atmosphere where students shared what media or form of art they would like to teach their classmates. As I suggested this to be a collaborative exercise, so they themselves started teaming up as well.  For differentiation purpose, the quieter students were asked about which medium they would like to improve on or need help with and which all studen...

MYP 5 Math Std- Unlocking the Power of Exponents - Nagarjuna Varnajoshyula

On 21 st   July 2023, I conducted the learning activity titled " Unlocking the Power of Exponents - Tarsia Puzzle Challenge " to reinforce students' understanding of the Laws of Exponents and Surds . The activity aimed to promote critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills among our students.   Objective:   The primary objective of this activity was to strengthen students' grasp of the Laws of Exponents and Surds through an engaging and interactive Tarsia puzzle challenge.  And also , for me, it is to get to know the students and their working styles in the classroom environment.    By using pre-made Tarsia puzzle pieces, students were encouraged to work collaboratively to match questions with their corresponding answers, thereby solidifying their understanding of the topic.   Activity Overview:   Group Formation: Students were divided into small groups of 5 members each. As I am not aware of the abilities of the students, I rando...

MYP 1 student's first experience of Science Lab - Eshita Chatterjee

Students of MYP 1 discovered the fun & magic in their science classroom by making observation of the demonstrations of two experiments, Blue - Bottle and Elephant toothpaste experiments. In blue bottle experiment they could see how adding of chemicals in a solution, could make a magical water that could change colour from blue to white, just when they quivered the flask. In elephant toothpaste experiment they could see how chemicals reaction generate huge amount foam, that covers up an entire trough in few seconds. It was great to see how thrilled students were to see the magic in their class and they were also encouraged to inquire the science behind the magic. -  Eshita Chatterjee

MYP 5 Math Learning Engagement- Clinometer - Trigonometry- Reena Narang

MYP 5 students made a clinometer as part of their trigonometry unit and then used it to measure the heights of things around school. They first started with the height of the door (known to be 7ft) to get an idea about how heights are calculated. They then moved around the building and calculated the heights of objects (like the wooden horse) and the swings in Primary park. The actual heights were then measured using a tape and then the error calculated. The students reflected on the activity. I am enclosing some pictures and student work with this mail. ___________________________________________________________________________________ - Ms Reena Narang
